Blairgowrie Activities & Things To Do
While it may not be the number one place you think of when taking a short break to Scotland, the town of Blairgowrie is a place that has more than a few things to entertain you.
Getting To Blairgowrie
When you tell someone you are going to Blairgowrie for the weekend, I bet the majority will say “where the hell is that?” Well Blairgowrie is located in the county of Perth and Kinross. As the largest town in the area it is actually pretty well signposted once you get into central Scotland so you should not have too much trouble finding it. But this is one of those places where a sat nav or a print out from the route finder would not be a bad idea.
What’s On & When To Go
Blairgowrie is a classic Scottish town full of old looking buildings and some truly amazing scenery. So as a result like most of Scotland (and the UK for that matter) the summer months are perhaps the best time to go for a visit. Still with that being said, Blairgowrie does look magical when coated with snow…….. whether or not you want to risk going to Scotland in the snow is up to you. The town does have a few events on, but these to tend to be more during the summer months.
At the end of the summer months in September you can attend the Blairgowrie Highland Games where, no pun intended, you can watch big beefy blokes tossing the caber and all other kinds of highland sports.
The “T-In-The-Park” music festival happens each July in Balado Park by Kinross, which is not too far away at all from Blairgowrie. So if live music is your thing then why no go to one of the best music festivals that the UK has to offer!
Blairgowrie has more than a few fun things to do during your stay, but you can also drive into places like Perth and Dundee which are only a short distance away.
Junior Ryder Cup, the hottest gold tournament for juniors will be taking place in Blairgowrie on the 22nd and 23rd of September 2014. Despite the junior in the title this is a very prestigious golf tournament where you can see the golf stars of tomorrow. In keeping with the golf theme, the town has a very well known and loved golf club. So Blairgowrie is the perfect place to go if you are a golf fanatic.
Raptor World, now I hate to disappoint you, but this is not a centre based on those cool dinosaurs from Jurassic Park. Still Raptor World is a pretty interesting place to go for a day out. They have a wide range of birds of prey for you to look out and if you have ever fancied your hand at falconry then now you can. As well as this they also offer wild life tours. If you want to do something a little different, Raptor World is well worth looking into.
The North & South Inches located in Perth are well worth the short drive. The two Inches between them have such activities as an outdoor swimming pool, boat lake, crazy golf, skate park, kids play area, extensive playing fields and numerous picnic areas. Also they are located right near the Perth town centre so you can go and do some shopping as well!
Blairgowrie has more than a few places for you to get a bite to eat. There are plenty of places you can get a good cooked meal or something quick on the go.
This is a town that is not bursting at the seams with nightlife, but if you just want a pint or a nice romantic evening meal then the town more than has you covered. If you want a bit more excitement in the way of nightlife, then you can always take a short drive to Dundee and Perth.
Blairgowrie has plenty of classic Scottish pubs for you to experience and sample the local ales.
Dundee and Perth are the places you want to go if you want a more “wild” night out with various nightclubs and a wider selection of pubs as well.
