The Cornish fishing port town of Padstow is an idyllic seaside location with immaculate beaches, beautiful blue seas and, occasionally, nice weather. If you like a seaside retreat, and can stand a little rain, the southwest of England is the place to be.
Located on the north coast of Cornwall, along the River Camel, Padstow is almost right on the beach, making it a perfect destination for surfers and sunbathers alike. The nearest train station is Bodmin Parkway, which is about 15 miles away from Padstow itself, be warned though, 15 miles in rural Cornwall could take you 35 minutes. You could also travel the whole way by car, providing you don’t live too far north (or it may require a whole day to get there).
The 'Obby 'Oss festival is a highlight of the Padstow calendar and certainly worth visiting if you are planning to be there on mayday. The festival starts with a sing of the Night Song outside the Golden Lion Inn at midnight. From there the festival progresses with decorations seemingly appearing from nowhere overnight and dancers dressed as horses frolicking about.
Fancy yourself as quite the Super Mario or Yoshi? Karting is available in the area and is a perfect activity for birthdays and stag/hen parties. Walking is an ever popular activity in southwest, and if you are into that kind of thing, the scenery is a real treat. Surfing is also a great activity to do in Cornwall, as the waves they get are pretty monstrous relative to the rest of the UK. There is even a surf school in Padstow, if you fancy a go with little or no experience. Other water sports you can do include water-skiing, banana boats, and wake boarding.
