Porthleven is a town located near Helston in Cornwall and it is the most southern port in England. It is located not only on the harbor but also near a little inlet from the harbor itself. Also near by is a lake called The Loe, so there is plenty of water life around. Besides water, you can find the Shadywalk Wood and the Gala Park nearby for pleasant green surroundings. Porthleven also lies in the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it has national park protections -- it is just that beautiful!
Getting to Porthleven in Cornwall
The Newquay Airport is the closest and main airport in Cornwall and closest to Porthleven. The Penzance Airport is also very popular. There are lots of regular trains that can get you to and from Porthleven as well. You can access the area by A30 by car and buses are also an option. From London, Porthleven is a 5-6 hour car ride.
Activities and Things to Do
The area of Cornwall also includes the Isles of Scilly, which is the mythical home of King Arthur. There is plenty to do in the entire Cornwall area and with Devon close by as well, you can find even more for your travels. The coastline is, of course, beautiful and you will always find something to do there. In Cornwall, you can find the Bude, which is best beach area with a surfing cultureto it. There are plenty of gardens that include the Lost Gardens of Heligan. The National Maritime Museum Falmouth is just perfect for the area. Don't forget to check out the Ruins of Tintagel Castle, which are a sight to see as well! The Cornwall area is definitely known for its festivals, and there are a lot in the area including the ancient harvest festival called Guldize and the Royal Cornwall Show which is an agricultural show. The AberFest even celebrates "all things," how cool is that?
When Should I go?
Porthleven in Cornwall is typically maritime with mild temperatures year round. You will never be too cold or too hot here, although the winters can get nippy. Expect to wear heavy jackets and even expect some snow and restrictions on what you can do during the “off season.” If you're looking for fun at the beach, hiking, exploring and being outside, then go during the summer months especially, June-August.
Nightlife in Porthleven in Cornwall
If you are not enjoying one of the countless festivals to take place in Cornwall at the time, you can find lots of pubs and clubs to frequent in the area. In Porthleven, right on the harbor, you can find the Ship Inn and the Harbour Inn -- and also the Atlantic Inn! You will find your typical "in the inn" pub scenes here. There are places to go throughout Helston as well, including the Lion and Lamb Public House and the Godolphin Arms. You'll find plenty to do in all of Cornwall if able to travel although Porthleven can be so much fun right on the beach and the harbor!
