What’s on and where to go
Summer and early autumn are ideal times to visit Tewkesbury, but there are several fairs and activities throughout the year. October is the month of the Tewkesbury Mop Fair and there is a Vintage Fair in September. Many venues open their doors in September as part of Heritage Open Month, so this provides ample opportunity to explore the Abbey, the John Moore Museum and the vintage fair.
Summer is also an excellent time to visit, with the Lake Fest and the Classic Vehicle Festival being held in August. The Medieval Festival is held in July; as part of the fair there is a re-enactment of the Battle of Tewkesbury. If you want to witness the scene of the Battle of Tewkesbury, then you can visit the fields that are situated near the Abbey. Popular venues include the Heritage and Visitor Centre and the Croft Farm Waterpark.
Croft Farm Waterpark can cater for corporate bookings and it offers water sports such as canoeing, archery and a team raft challenge. Artic Quest give people the opportunity to take part in husky dog rides; they can cater for corporate teams and overnight stays. For people prepared to travel a bit, then the Cotswolds Water Park isn’t far from Tewkesbury and they offer a huge range of water based activities including water skiing, wakeboarding, sailing and wind surfing.
For night clubs, you’ll have to travel out of town as there is a distinct lack of night clubs in Tewskesbury. Cheltenham is the best place for night clubs; Coco and Thirteen Degrees are two of the most popular.
Tewkesbury is home to The Roses Theatre. The theatre and cinema has a full schedule of events so there is always something there to see or do. As well as hosting films, musicals and plays, they also feature pantomimes and workshops.
