Grantown On Spey Activities & Things To do

Despite the name sounding like its something to do with neutering cats. The Scottish highland town of Grantown On Spey is a very interesting place for a weekend a way. This is a special kind of place for those of you looking for mainly a relaxing weekend with just a tiny bit of excitement thrown in.

Getting To Grantown On Spey

Grantown On Spey is not the easiest place in the world to get to, but if you follow the A95 into Scotland and keep a lookout for the A939 then you should get there safe and sound. It may be a little bit out of the way, but that is part of the charm.

What’s On & When To Go?

As this is Scotland we are talking about (or should that be aboot?) and you may be further north than you have been before, Grantown On Spey is a place best suited for the summer months. Sure you can go in the winter if you like and its supposedly very picturesque during this time, but the Scottish weather can be very harsh. So this is certainly a place you will want to go when the weather is behaving its self.

Craggan Outdoors, If you have taken the kids to Grantown On Spey with you then Craggan Outdoors is a great place for them to have some fun and adventure. Canoeing, golf, fishing and rope climbing are some of the amazing outdoor activities you can do here. If you want some excitement during your stay in Grantown On Spey then Craggan Outdoors is the place for you.

The Speyside Centre, is a great wee place to visit. This for many is the pride and joy of the town. Its a great little place that hosts an art gallery (if that’s your kind of thing) various exhibitions on during the year, and they also serve traditional Scottish food in their Cootie Dumpling restaurant.

The Bookmark Bookshop, why on earth would I go on vacation to go to a book shop? I can hear you say. Well the Bookmark Bookshop is a key place in Grantown. This is a small traditional bookshop that holds a special place for many of the locals. If you want to experience the “real” Grantown On Spey then you have to check this place out.

Anagach Woods is an amazing place to go and visit during your stay. There is good parking and plenty of places to stop and go for a picnic as well. This is a pretty busy place, but when its quiet many people have reported seeing some wildlife such as sasquatches, woolly mammoths, wild haggis and birds...... ok so only one of them is true, but I will leave it to you to find out which one.

As far as eating goes in Grantown. There are numerous places to grab a bite to eat. Ranging from traditional family type places serving good Scottish food. To larger hotels offering a very upmarket kind of dining experience. There are also more than a few cafe’s around as well if you fancy a quick bite to eat.

After Dark

Now it may blow your mind to hear that Grantown On Spey is not a place with a huge clubbing scene. But it does have some great pubs where you can go for a drink and enjoy the company of the friendly locals.
