Margate Activities & Things To Do
Looking for a nice seaside resort that you can get away to that isn’t the usual suspects like Brighton? Then Margate might be your best option. It’s a great place to visit and is away from all of your traditional big English cities. It’s a great place for a getaway back to a more peaceful time, but if you come down here expecting to paint the town red you’ll probably be a bit disappointed!
In terms of things to do, there are plenty of tourist attractions to enjoy and it has a few good bars that you should check out if you want to wet your lips.
Getting to Margate
The most common route that people would be taking tends to be from Charing Cross and London Victoria, which takes roughly two hours for the journey. These are regular trains so it’s easy enough to book one up in advance and get down. If you are driving by road then you might want to consider coming by the M20 or the M2, as they provide easy access from London.
What’s on and when to go?
Despite its rather low-key style, it’s been a leading resort in the UK for those looking for warm sandy beaches on these shores. It draws as many Brits as it does foreign tourists, and makes a great stop-off point if you want to see a more rural side of the UK.
It’s been through a lot of structural changes over recent generations but if you want things to do when you are in the area, there is an annual jazz festival every June. As well as this, the Margate Museum can found in the Market Place and it offers a great way to find out the history of the area.
There are some fine restaurants that you should consider visiting when you are in the area. For a start, Ambrette is a great place to eat if you like spicy foods and unique dishes you’ve probably not come across too often in the past.
As well as the Ambrette, Giorgios is well rated and offers a great selection of meals as well as a lively atmosphere at night. It’s a good place to come to for food or for drinks at the later hours, providing a classy establishment to enjoy when you are in the area – it’ certainly one of the top places for both food and drink
Barnacles ( http://www.thorleytaverns.com/outlets/barnacles/ ) is one of the most popular bars in the area, and has been open since 2005. It’s got a great local connction despite its short lifespan and has been received well by locals and tourists – if you want a local for your time here, this could be a good choice!
