Royal Tunbridge Wells
Royal Tunbridge Wells is located about 40 miles to the southeast of London. It is a quaint English town on 56,000 which gained popularity for its spas and natural springs. Today it serves as a retail hub and tourism plays an important role in its economy.
Things to do during the day
Most of the outdoor activities in Tunbridge Wells center on Victorian era mansions and gardens of the times. The lovely grounds are perfect to take advantage of the mild weather.
Retail is the main fare of the day in Tunbridge Wells. The enormous The Royal Victoria Place shopping centre is the main hub of commerce and income in the region. People in the region come here to shop and, indeed, the mall makes up 30% of the town’s employment.
The Pantiles is a Royal Colonnade in a section of town where the elite once played and held their parties. Today there are numerous shops and cafes to shop and enjoy a coffee. There are restaurants and gardens to enjoy. It is famous for the columns that align the walkways.
The chalybeate spring is situated in the north end of the Pantiles. There are baths where you can still take a dip in the warm spring water. The iron rich water is said to have natural healing properties.
Things to do at night
The Pantiles is the place to find a good nightcap after dinner. Enjoy a stroll through the gardens. The weather is very temperate so late evenings are to be enjoyed.
The Bedford and The Beacon seem to have the best reviews for pubs in the area. However, there seems to be quite a few to choose from. So you can sample quite a few and decide for yourself. But the upscale bars are at the Pantiles.
The Odeon Cinema is a modern, state of the art movie complex with 3D movies, big screens, and even a theater that you can take a drink from the bar.

The summer is the time to go to Royal Tunbridge Wells. The average temperature is in the upper 60s(F) to low 70s(F) during the summer months. In the winter, the average temperature reaches down into the 30s(F). The winter months are the rainy season although still not monsoon weather by any means.

The rugby team played for the national title before ultimately finishing second. A swimming centre is also in town. Each year there is a half marathon for running enthusiasts. But being so close to London, many people go there to watch the football games.
As mentioned, Royal Tunbridge Wells is only about 40 miles by car and only 35 by train. Either way is a not a terrible inconvenience. There are numerous roads and highways into the city and are close to major highways getting to London. Locally, there is a public bus service for travel within the town. And there is train service into London. The major airport is in London also.
