Didcot Activities And Things To Do
Didcot, one of the few places that changed areas, with out obviously physically moving. How did a physical place do that? I hear you ask. Well, until 1974, Didcot was in Berkshire but was moved in that year to Oxfordshire.
Surrounded by picturesque and historical villages, Didcot is placed in a spot of great beauty whilst at the same time being slowly modernized.
Don't expect an idyllic rural town when you arrive as Didcot has a Military presence, business park and power station. If you don't mind then there is plenty of beauty to see surrounding Didcot and if you are a Railway enthusiast, Didcot is heaven. Just don't go expecting Chocolate box cottages because it won't look like that inside the town.
Getting to Didcot
As mentioned, Didcot is nestled in the valleys of Oxfordshire. It is just South of Oxford but north of Goring Gap.
You can arrive by train to Didcot and it is on the main line from London, with trains running a couple of times per hour, taking approximately 45 minutes.
To use airports, you would have to come to Reading and continue on by other modes of transport. There are no main motorways close and only A roads are close by, mainly connected to Reading and Oxford.
What's on in Didcot
People mainly visit Didcot itself for the Didcot Railway Centre, which is opposite the main modern railway station. It boasts some of the oldest Great Western Railway Steam Locomotives. There is also Cornerstone Arts Centre but apart from that, everything is more modern, so if you like shopping, you will enjoy the large Orchid shopping centre, holding over 30 different shops.
There is a swimming pool in Didcot and also a Cinema, also cafe's, restaurants and pubs. A highly recommended Indian Restaurant is the Kolkata, which is vastly reviewed with much positivity across the internet.
Not much is available about the night life of Didcot but there is certainly plenty f pubs to choose from so no one will go dry of an evening.
