A place known for being "probably the loveliest town in England", and if that tickles your fancy, you’re in for spectacular views of rolling hills, Tudor and medieval buildings, and even a medieval walled town.
Located in Shropshire, south of Shrewsbury, and just north of Leominster, the town is probably most easily accessible by train if travelling from Cardiff or Manchester. The town call also be reached quite easily from Birmingham, just follow the A456 along to the A49 then travel a short distance north, and you will reach Ludlow. From London, it’s a bit of a longer journey, with possibly the quickest route being following the M40/M42 then continuing into Kidderminster and then on west towards Ludlow.
The town has always got loads of events going on, so if you are looking for things to do in Ludlow, check out the ludlow.org link at the bottom of the page. Ludlow also has regular horse racing at Ludlow Racecoarse, if you feel a trip to the races is what’s required. Other activities you can do all year round include cycling, walking, and visiting the local Ironbridge Gorge Museums (a series of 10 very informative museums focussing on science, and the industrial revolution in the area).
While you’re in Ludlow, don’t forget to check out some of the nearly 500 listed buildings including the beautiful Feathers Hotel, built in 1619 (you could even stay there if you wanted to). There is also a partly ruined 11th century medieval castle to explore, which also has accommodation and regular events.
For a night out, the Historic Ludlow Ghostwalk can’t be missed, and why not pop into one of the local pubs, for example The Marches or The Bennetts End Inn to calm your nerves.
