Taunton is the county town of Somerset, a town of great historical importance dating back to Saxon times. With the UK government having named Taunton as one of their 'Strategically Important Town or City' huge regeneration grants have been awarded to the town and regeneration has been underway since 2006.
Getting to Taunton
Taunton is situated on the M5 between Bristol and Exeter, both of which are around 45 minutes away by road. Taunton is exceptionally well serviced by mainline rail services, with routes to Bristol, Exeter, London and the North all connected. By air, both Exeter and Bristol airports are close by and frequent connections to Heathrow and Gatwick are available by bus and train.
The Taunton comedy festival is held in July every year and usually has some established comics as well as upcoming new stars. The Taunton Carnival is an evening affair with illuminated floats; a truly stunning event.
Activities in the area
Quantock Trekking offer horse riding experiences over various trails in the stunning surrounding countryside. All experience levels are accommodated for and groups are welcome. Closer to the edge provide adrenalin pumping activities including climbing, zip wire and team building exercises. They specialise in corporate away days and team building.

While obviously not as lively as their neighbours, Bristol and Exeter, there are still a few options for a good night out in Taunton. The Willow Tree is a well-regarded local restaurant set in a stunning 17th Century Grade II listed building. Ciao Amore is a well-established, family run Italian restaurant with a good local fan base. Okoko nightclub has five themed rooms and plays a variety of music.
