Chesterfield Activities & Things to Do
Although famous for its crooked spire, Chesterfield is so much more than just a wonky church. With several entertainment venues, sports grounds and leisure centers, along with plenty of clubs and bars, Chesterfield could be a great place for a day/night out. Also with Sheffield very nearby, there’s not far to go to find a slightly bigger selection of attractions.
Chesterfield can be found Derbyshire, just south of Sheffield, making it highly accessible from the north, but a less than convenient journey from down south. From Manchester, take the A6, then A623 then A619. From Birmingham take the M6 to get to the M42, follow the A42 north then the A1 until you get to Chesterfield.
The Winding Wheel, Chesterfield’s multi-purpose entertainment venue features exhibitions, concerts, dinners and dances. Hell, even Paddy McGuinness has played there! If you like laughing at dodgy architecture or are legitimately into church spires, the leaning and twisted spire of the confusingly named Church of Saint Mary and All Saints, may be right up your alley. For football lovers, the League One team of Chesterfield FC surprisingly enough, has their stadium in Chesterfield, so if you’re the mood, take a trip down to the Proact Stadium and watch a match.
For nights out, Escapade, Evolution and the strip club Krystals, are all great options for birthdays and stag parties. If you are into dramatics, Pomegranate Theatre is a popular venue for films, comedy and music. If you’re open to the idea of a short trip to Sheffield, there are a variety of activities available that will give you a bit of a change of scenery, including Sheffield Cable Waterski (great fun for birthdays and stag/hen does) and Owlerton Greyhound Stadium if you want to watch dogs running around.
