Staines in Surrey
Now called Staines Upon Thames, the town is trying to rebrand itself in defense of a popular TV show that seemed to frequently insult the town and its lack of character. In general, the Staines is basically a commuter town for Londoners. It is located just south of Heathrow airport and is mainly a small, working class town which relies on the larger urban center for much of its recreation and cultural activities.
Things to do during the day
The Thames River runs through the north side of town with a lovely walkway perfect for an afternoon stroll. It is an easy walk into town along the river for shopping or a dinner. There is a conservation area along the waterfront with bench seating and sculptures to enhance the area.
Several of the football clubs have training facilities that offer public parks and a place for children to play not only football, but any recreational activities. Many of the parks have picnic areas perfect for a family day at the park.
High Street is a pedestrian only avenue that offers some familiar upscale shops such as H&M, Sony, and Tesco among others.
The Two Rivers Shopping Center is the most popular shopping center for clothing and as well as a state of the art cinema and a comedy club.
Things to do at night
The most popular activity at night in Staines is to go to the Vue cinemas at the Two Rivers Shopping Center. VIP seating offers better views of the screen and the seats are extra wide for more comfort.
Many of the local pubs offer live music. Staines is becoming known regionally as a happening live concert venue for small bands and local acts.
Two Rivers Comedy Club has local talent and an occasional act from London. The venue only seats about 50 people maximum and has a history of the acts staying around after the show to chat with customers.

There is a train station on the outskirts of town with service into London and, from there, all of the UK.
There are taxis available at the train station and the bus station is a short walk, also. Buses have routes over the entire city for easy commuting.
For car travel, Staines upon Thames is near two major highways which can get you into southeast London in about 20 minutes. From the freeways, it is an easy commute to many other UK cities.
