Leamington Spa In Warwickshire
Once the place where aristocrats came to bathe in its healing saline waters, Royal Leamington spa, now simply called Leamington Spar or Leamington in the West Midland's region of England is an interesting town to still visit even without the baths. The town is named after the Leam river which flows through the town and despite the baths only remaining popular for about 60 years the town still holds a fascination for many.
As Leamington Spa is located quite close to Warwick getting to Leamington is extremely simple as you can go by air, rail, coach or car. Once there you will be impressed by this lovely large English town in the heart in England.
Things To Do
While the activities in Leamington Spa are somewhat limited compared to cities like London or Liverpool, that is part of the charm of visiting this town, and there are still plenty of things for visitors to see and do.
If you enjoy being out of door there are two great parks where you and your family can spend the day. Victoria Park is located near the banks of the River Leam and has lots of green spaces and lovely children's play ground. Jephson Park, built during the heyday of the Spas is open to the public and features not only has a children's play area, but plenty of places to walk, some interesting plants, bands that play, friendly squirrels that will eat from your hand, and you can even rent a rowboat or kayak and have a great time on the lake.
For those interested in a bit of the history of the rise and fall of the Spa, the Royal Pump room is a great place to visit. It has a museum, art gallery, nice little cafe and gardens to enjoy.
Of course there is always disc golf or a real game of golf to be had here in Leamington Spa and a great rainy day activity might include a trip to the potter's In where you can paint your own pottery. Both children and adults really seem to enjoy this activity.
Royal Leamington Spa is not without a bit of nightlife. It has a couple of clubs where you can go dance, Evolve and Sugar, but these spots are visited mostly by the younger crowd. The older crowd seem to enjoy taking in one or two of the towns many pubs such as:
The Woodland Tavern ( Click Here )-That offers some great ales at reasonable price, and you can visit with other patrons.
The Somerville Arms- Which offers music nights, and drinks, as well as a court garden and friendly welcoming host.
There are several places to eat in Leamington as well, and the French Restaurant Eleven offers excellent service and great food.
After eating you can always take in a movie at the Spa center or a live show at the Loft.
If you visit Leamington Spa at just the right time, you can enjoy some of their special events and festivals. Art in the Park is held in the Jephson Gardens and features music and a theatre presentation. Other events include:
Peace Festival which has been going strong since 1978
Summer Mela Festival which is festival given to music and dance
Jamaican Independence Celebration which is rather a small and unique celebration that takes place every August at the Talbot Inn, but is said to be lots of fun, mon.
If you are looking to get away, enjoy a leisurely vacation, some interesting history and activities and just dine and unwind, then Leamington Spa may still hold some healing powers still.
