Evesham in Worcestershire
Lying within the Vale of Evesham and centrally located between Worcestershire, Chelteham and Stratford-upon-Avon market town of Evesham was founded around an 8th Century Abbey and sits in some of the prettiest countryside in the United Kingdom.
The easiest way to get Evesham is by either bus or car as the Davis road will take you right into town. It also allows you to get a good look at some the Vale of Eveshams beautiful flowers, fruit trees and green pastures.
While Evesham can't exactly be described as a hot bed of activity, it does have some interesting things to do for visitors to lovely town. The Evesham County Park is a beautiful place to stroll around and have a picnic and it also has a nice restaurant where you can lunch as well as light railway that kids certainly enjoy.
The Leisure Center has a couple of pools for those who enjoy swimming as well as a climbing wall and several other activities to be enjoyed. The Almonry Heritage Centre offers information to visitors, and also has a museum and lovely garden worth seeing.
There is also the Eversham Arts Theatre and a Cinema where you can catch a movie or a live show, or hop aboard one the of Avon cruise ships for a relaxing cruise down the Avon River.
Nightlife is somewhat limited in Evesham, unless you enjoy a pint or two in the evening, as other than theatre, or cinema, there is little to do besides visit one of the towns of pubs. A few pubs you might want to stop into include:
Trumpet Inn- This pub has a nice pub like interior, a friendly and helpful staff, and good food as well as the usual ale.
The Royal Oak ( http://theroyaloakevesham.co.uk/ ) - is a typical 16th century pub, kind of dark on the interior with good homemade food for those who are looking for a good lunch and offering a relaxing evening of drinking during the evening hours.
Iron Road Rocker- The Iron Road Rocker is probably one of the most exciting pubs in town. Not only does this pub have friendly owners and great beer, but they offer some really great live music including blues, jazz, country and rock.
Evesham pretty much skips the seemingly traditional food and drink festivals many town and villages hold each year and its place offer some really exciting festivals such as the Evesham angling festival, which they state can be enjoyed by even those who don't fish. There is also the Evesham cycle fest and the annual Evesham 10 K run. So plan your holiday around one of these super exciting festivals, and don't forget to bring your bike, your pole, or a good pair of running shoes!
While Evesham may lack some of the excitement many tourists crave, it is a great place to get away from it all, see some interesting sights and listen to music while hoisting a tankard or two.
